The 2026 FIFA World Cup is already making history — and not just on the field. For the first time, the tournament will bring together 48 teams competing in 104 matches across 16 cities in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
To keep such a massive event running smoothly, FIFA has announced the largest volunteer program in its history. Nearly 65,000 volunteers are expected to be recruited, supporting everything from stadium operations to training facilities and even hotels.
“It’s a unique chance to be part of the behind-the-scenes of the world’s biggest sporting event,” said Stephanie Costa, a content creator who has volunteered at previous FIFA events in Orlando.
For many, especially immigrants, the opportunity goes beyond the excitement of the World Cup. Fernanda Tozati, who is applying as a volunteer, highlights how the program opens doors to cultural and professional growth. “It’s not just about football — it’s about practicing English, building connections, and integrating into American culture,” she explained.
In the United States, volunteerism is deeply rooted in society. Every week, millions of people dedicate hours to hospitals, schools, churches, sporting events, and social programs. The World Cup, experts say, will be another opportunity to showcase this tradition on a global scale.
“Volunteering at the World Cup is more than helping with logistics — it’s about creating unforgettable memories and being part of history,” Stephanie Costa added.
