A New York–based pet‑food subscription company is offering two of the most unusual jobs of the year — and the hourly pay is turning heads. Spot and Tango is looking to hire two temporary workers for roles that involve interacting with dogs in a very unconventional way.
The first position is for a “dog breath sniffer,” responsible for evaluating the scent of a dog’s breath after trying a new product.
The second role is for a “lick receiver,” which consists of allowing friendly dogs to give face licks and then reporting the experience.
Both jobs pay up to $1,000 per hour and are part of the company’s effort to test “Pup‑Gum,” a dental chew designed to improve dogs’ breath at its source.
The selected workers will visit dog parks across New York City, interact with pets, assess the breath or the licks, and record their impressions for the company’s research team.
According to Spot and Tango, the goal is to gather real‑world feedback from both dogs and their owners to refine the product before a wider release. The company has not disclosed how many hours the workers will be needed, but the high hourly rate has already sparked widespread attention online.
Some people find the idea amusing and harmless, while others — including veterinary professionals — point out that close contact with unfamiliar animals can carry risks and should be approached with caution.
