Brazilian supermodel Gisele Bündchen has surprised fans by revealing in her new book that she’s no longer following a completely vegan diet. After years of eating only plant‑based foods, she decided to reintroduce small amounts of meat and fish into her routine — a change guided by medical advice.

For years, Bündchen maintained a plant‑based lifestyle inspired by her connection with animals and her desire to live naturally. But even with medical supervision and supplements, her body began showing signs of fatigue and nutrient deficiency. At 45, she says she struggled to maintain healthy iron levels and eventually developed anemia. Increasing leafy greens, nuts, and vitamins wasn’t enough — her body simply wasn’t responding.

SOT – Cris Oliveira, Nutrition Coach
Oliveira explains that vegan diets have become popular worldwide, but not everyone adapts well. About 4 percent of Americans follow a vegan lifestyle, yet each body reacts differently depending on metabolism, health history, and nutritional needs.

Doctors recommended that Bündchen reintroduce animal protein to restore balance. Today, she follows a plan that’s roughly 80 percent plant‑based and 20 percent animal‑based, a combination she says has brought back her energy and sense of well‑being.

Experts emphasize that iron deficiency is common among women regardless of diet type. Any major dietary change should be done with professional guidance to avoid health risks. Nutritionists say the key is finding balance — and Bündchen’s experience highlights that even the healthiest routines must be tailored to each individual.
