Foreign Observers to Monitor Brazil’s Elections as U.S. Lawmakers Voice Concerns Over Possible Interference

Six international authorities will take part in monitoring Brazil’s upcoming elections, according to the Organization of American States. The OAS mission will include representatives from the organization as well as former ministers from Chile and Paraguay. Their agenda includes meetings with electoral authorities, candidates, and civil‑society groups as part of a broader effort to ensure transparency during the vote.
Here in the United States, thirty‑one Democratic members of Congress have sent a letter to Secretary of State Marco Rubio expressing concern about what they describe as the possibility of interference by the Trump administration in Brazil’s electoral process. The lawmakers urged the U.S. government to respect Brazil’s democratic institutions and the final results of the vote once ballots are counted
