Disney is bringing one of its most beloved characters to life—literally. A new AI‑enhanced Olaf robot, created by Walt Disney Imagineering, is set to make its public debut at Disneyland Paris on March 29, and early reactions show just how real the snowman feels.

As the robot waddles forward, waving and smiling, it’s hard not to think he stepped straight out of the animated world.

“Hi, I’m Olaf and I like warm greetings,”
the character says—before switching to Portuguese for testing audiences:
“Oi, eu sou o Olaf e eu gosto de cumprimentos quentinhos… abraços de todo mundo.”

A Collaboration Between Engineers and Animators

Disney says the realism comes from a deep collaboration between its robotics team, film animators, and artificial‑intelligence specialists.

Visitor Julia Vargas Jones reacted with surprise during a demonstration:

“Oh my goodness, this is incredible.”

Kylie Laughlin, Vice President at Walt Disney Imagineering, explained that the team worked directly with the original Frozen animators to ensure Olaf’s movements matched the character fans know.

“We were able to work with the actual animators,”
Laughlin said.
“We create a virtual world… teach Olaf how to walk, interact and wave.”

Before building the physical robot, engineers trained Olaf in a virtual environment, teaching him how to respond, gesture, and interact naturally with guests.

From Paris to Orlando

After the public test in France, Olaf is expected to travel to Walt Disney World in Orlando, where he will join the lineup of interactive characters.

And he’s already practicing the phrase he’ll likely repeat the most to excited children:

“Bye. I miss you already.”

Disney says the Olaf robot is part of a broader push to blend storytelling, robotics, and AI to create characters that feel more alive than ever.
