Brazil’s Electoral Court is urging citizens living abroad to regularize, transfer, or issue their voter ID (Título de Eleitor) by May 6, 2026, the final deadline before the national voter registry closes for the organization of the 2026 General Elections, scheduled for November.
According to the Superior Electoral Court (TSE), an estimated 800,000 Brazilians are expected to be eligible to vote from abroad in 2026, including the large and growing community in the United States — one of the biggest Brazilian diasporas in the world.
Voting Abroad: What Changes and What Doesn’t
Brazilians living outside the country vote exclusively for President of the Republic, but they remain legally required to keep their voter registration up to date. Electoral authorities warn that unresolved issues can lead to practical consequences, including:
Delays in consular services
Restrictions on passport issuance
Complications in legal or administrative procedures in Brazil
“Regularizing your voter ID is essential for maintaining your civic rights, even while living abroad,” said João Lucas Quental Novaes de Almeida, Consul‑General of Brazil in Orlando.
How to Regularize Your Voter ID From Abroad
The process is fully digital and handled through the TSE’s self‑service platform Título Net Exterior, available at:
Through the portal, voters can:
Request their first voter ID
Update personal information
Transfer their electoral domicile to the Exterior Zone
Regularize canceled voter IDs
Correct or update address and voting location
The TSE notes that printed voter cards are no longer issued for voters abroad; all data is stored digitally and accessible online.
“The system is fast, digital, and designed to make the process easier for Brazilians living overseas,” added Consul‑General Almeida.
The final deadline remains May 6, 2026.
Why So Many Voter IDs Were Canceled
The TSE confirmed that more than 5 million voter IDs were canceled in recent years, primarily due to:
Failure to vote in three consecutive mandatory elections (each round counts as one election)
Failure to justify absence or pay the legally required fine
These voters must regularize their situation through the same Título Net system before participating in future elections.
