Brazilian psychiatrist Luis Augusto Rohde has been recognized as one of the world’s leading experts in child and adolescent psychiatry. In a ceremony held in New York, Dr. Rohde received the prestigious Ruane Prize for Outstanding Achievement in Child and Adolescent Psychiatric Research, awarded by the Brain & Behavior Research Foundation, one of the most respected institutions in global mental health. He is the first Latin American researcher to receive this honor.

Dr. Rohde’s work has been transformative for individuals living with Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), a neurobiological condition that affects concentration, impulse control, and activity levels. His research advocates for a multimodal treatment approach that combines psychotherapy, psychoeducation, physical activity, and, when necessary, medication. “ADHD is not just a behavioral issue; it’s a complex condition that requires comprehensive care,” said Dr. Rohde. “Our goal is to improve quality of life through science-based strategies that empower patients and families.”

According to recent data from the CDC, approximately 15.5 million adults and between 5% to 7% of children in the United States live with ADHD. With nearly 500 published articles and over 40,000 citations, Dr. Rohde is a full professor at the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul, where he coordinates the ADHD Program at the Hospital de Clínicas and serves as deputy director of the Center for Research and Innovation in Mental Health. He also leads the International Association for Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, reinforcing his global impact on the field.
