Black Friday generates billions of dollars in retail sales across the United States, but the economic impact extends far beyond shopping. As stores, supermarkets, and shopping centers prepare for millions of customers, demand for clean, safe, and well-maintained commercial spaces creates additional business opportunities for the commercial cleaning industry.

According to the National Retail Federation (NRF), 129.5 million consumers shopped in physical stores between Thanksgiving and Cyber Monday in 2025, a 3% increase compared to the previous year. Black Friday alone attracted 80.3 million in-store shoppers. In 2026, the holiday shopping period kicks off with Thanksgiving on November 26, followed by Black Friday on November 27 and Cyber Monday on November 30.

For Arthur Accioly, co-founder of Imperio Program, a business training and mentorship initiative that has supported more than 2,000 entrepreneurs looking to start or expand commercial cleaning businesses in the United States, the holiday season presents a strategic opportunity for growth. The program provides guidance on business management, securing commercial contracts, and scaling cleaning operations.

"The more people move through commercial spaces, the greater the need to keep those environments clean and ready for customers. Cleaning becomes an essential part of the shopping experience, creating opportunities for companies that can deliver reliable services and respond to increased demand," Accioly explains.

With years of experience overseeing operations at Imperiall, a commercial cleaning company operating in seven U.S. states with more than 400 employees, Accioly believes the final quarter of the year can also be an ideal time for entrepreneurs entering the industry.

"Entrepreneurs don't necessarily need to wait until January to launch a business. During the holiday season, many companies need additional cleaning support or specialized services on short notice. Businesses that are prepared to meet those needs may secure their first contracts before the new year even begins," he says.

Opportunities extend well beyond retail establishments. While stores and supermarkets often require more frequent cleaning due to increased foot traffic, other industries experience a different seasonal pattern.

Schools, corporate offices, and manufacturing facilities may reduce operations during winter breaks and holiday closures, creating opportunities for deep cleaning, maintenance projects, and changes in service providers.

"Some of the best opportunities arise when businesses temporarily slow down. Schools may use winter break to transition to a new cleaning provider, while offices and other facilities can schedule carpet cleaning, floor treatments, and other specialized services without disrupting daily operations," Accioly notes.

Corporate holiday celebrations, religious gatherings, and seasonal events can also generate demand for additional cleaning services before and after large gatherings.

According to Accioly, understanding these seasonal shifts is essential for cleaning companies seeking to build long-term relationships and increase contract value.

"Business owners who understand their clients' schedules and operational needs can offer much more than routine cleaning. They can provide specialized solutions, increase revenue, and develop lasting commercial relationships. A seasonal opportunity can become a contract that continues throughout the following year," he concludes.
